Continuity mistake: When Joe is on the yacht talking to his father, Joe is mixing up martinis, pours them, and adds an onion to one, and then an olive to the other. The camera cuts away to his father and then cuts back and now the second martini has no olive, so Joe adds an olive again. (01:30:11)
You've Got Mail (1998)
Plot summary
Directed by: Nora Ephron
Starring: Tom Hanks, Greg Kinnear, Meg Ryan, Parker Posey, Jean Stapleton
This film is loosely based on the classic movie "The shop around the corner". Meg Ryan owns a small bookshop by the same name. Her business begins to fail when a new superbookstore "Fox Books" opens up offering people discounts and more variety. She meets and detests the owner of the bookstore; Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) and the two begin a relationship that has nothing but cutting comments and jibes to each other. However, she does not know that he is the person she has been emailing recently and becoming a good friend of. He becomes aware of it before she does and the fun begins.
Kathleen Kelly: You poor, sad, multimillionaire. I feel so sorry for you.
Trivia: Meg Ryan's bookstore is called "The Shop Around the Corner." This is a reference to the 1940 Jimmie Stewart/Margaret Sullivan movie of that name, upon which "You've Got Mail" was loosely based.
